More Than a Meal: The "Why" Behind Tales at the Table

At Key2MIA, we’ve always been about culture, community, and connection. But I realized that while our walking tours show you the places, we needed a space to really digest the stories. For this reason, we partnered with AAEX to curate an experience to bring movement to the thought, and Tales at the Table was born.

The "Why" is simple: Conversation is a lost art, and history is best served with a side of soul.

We created this series because:

  • To Preserve the Oral Tradition: So much of Black history and multicultural legacy is passed down through storytelling. By sitting at a table together, we become the keepers of those stories.

  • To Create "Proximity": It’s easy to read about a movement in a book, but it’s transformative to discuss it with the person sitting next to you. We are breaking down silos and building bridges over three courses.

  • To Celebrate Excellence in Context: Our next topic, The HBCU Experience, isn't just about college; it’s about the "Why." Why did these institutions need to exist? Why do they remain the backbone of Black professional and social life?

The HBCU Connection We chose this theme for Q2 because Miami’s own history is deeply intertwined with HBCU excellence. From the teachers who built our schools to the activists who marched our streets, the "HBCU energy" is in the city's DNA. This dinner is a tribute to that resilience, that flyness, and that unwavering commitment to community.

Whether you’re an alum, a future student, or just someone who respects the legacy—there is a seat for you.

Our host location is owned by an HBCU alum, and we've converted Smitty's Wings into Smitty's University. Make sure you complete your application for Spring enrollment, class is in session.
